ABOUT ME

I’m a guitar player and former guitar instructor from Argentina who applied music pedagogy techniques to practice my own English speaking skills…

And achieved way above average results in a short period of time!

Well, much shorter than the traditional methods anyway, this isn’t a “Speak like a native in 10 days or less, GUARANTEED” kind of thing… LOL.

When I was trying to overcome my poor speaking skills (because I wanted to teach guitar to American students, they pay more), I went to some professional “English tutors”.

The folks with the fancy diplomas, and even a Native veteran teacher told me

“You already know the grammar, the vocabulary… I can’t teach you anything else… You just have practice more conversations”…

I’ve tried it for a long, long time, and it never worked.

It wasn’t until I started training my speaking skills in the same way I trained my guitar chops, that I started seeing progress at a much faster rate than any other “normal” student.

My methodology is based on common sense, which, for what I’ve seen, has escaped the traditional methods that are being adviced by most English teachers and tutors.

Principles of The Guitar English Method:

1. Speaking is a combination of

    a. Motor skills

    b. Cognitive skills

2. You TRAIN those skills with specific drills

Just like a guitar player learns to play guitar, or a basketball player learns to shoot.

That’s NOT by “just practicing more conversations” any more than a guitar player trains his chops by “just playing more guitar”…

What you do is:

  1. Identify your weaknesses

  2. Drill those weakneses with carefully designed excercises until the correct movements become automatic

  3. Use your performances as feedback to pin point more things to improve on.

This adresses many things at once.

  1. You don’t have to SUCK in front of other people (because you practice in solitude)
    .
  2. You have CLEAR targets and can meassure your progress accurately.

  3. You’ll develop CONFIDENCE that’s based or real COMPETENCE as opposed to just trying power through your self-consciousness with sheer will-power.

  4. When you get to a real conversation, your automatic responses will become better. This will only improve as you progress in your training.

Who is this for?

If you are a smart and capable individual who’s being kept stuck professionally, socially or personally for his lack of English speaking skills, especially in high-pressure situations, then you may want to try this approach.

It might just change your life, like it did with mine.
